“We received the permission to take a car and we took a trip
up to Verdun,
10 miles away from the camp. We were there many times before but
never had the time to explore. We walked around the towns peering into the
deserted, destroyed homes even rummaging inside the houses. We found many
interesting relics and finally wound up at the Citadel. It is surely an
impressive sight, one long to be remembered. The absolute destruction of this
city is unimaginable.”
